Discussion:
Idea for Manufactured Skipping Stones...that might just rock!

FYI - See below for idea that might be helpful in your inventing. Good
Luck!

How about manufactured "skipping stones". This could develop into a new
sport or competition. The rocks could be specially designed artificial
stones, instead of the usual way of collecting stones on a shore. All the
stones in the package would be the same, within close tolerances.

Computer analysis could give the best rock configuration for skipping.
Plastic molding techniques could give the consistency and cheapness of cost.

Maybe it could be the next popular item similar to the Yo-Yo, Pet Rock, Hula
Hoop, Frisbee, Fishing Casting Contests, etc. All these are probably
patented and trademarked. Maybe this is the next new one!

Possible Start Building Blocks -
* Existing concepts for plastic molding, hockey pucks, sport flying discs,
medical tablet manufacturing, packing peanuts, etc.
* USPTO Class/Subclasses for "How-To" ideas - 473/588, 446/153
* Search string to copy/paste into your favorite search engine - "skipping
stones" and theory

Why don't you patent this ?

I know why,, because you think getting ideas is what inventors need help
with, guess what, we don't, we get "dumb" ideas like this everyday. Your
looking for something that you can claim "that was my idea" when you see
it on the market, of course no one else here could patent this, or any
of your other ideas, because the patent/s would be worthless, even if
you ever got a good idea, no one here or anywhere that heard it, could
actually patent it, not legally anyway, without putting your name on the
patent, and you having the rights with someone else doing all the work,
and spending all the money.

Why don't you actually help and don't post your ideas here, you would
stop blocking any members from inventing something similar, if you ever
posted a good idea

Hooray, Rodney, voice of reason. I hope this guy will take the hint. I
don't know why he thinks that putting perfectly good (and perfectly BAD)
ideas out there in public is useful somehow, but whatever his reason
we'd all be better off if he'd just shut his trap.

Do we really want to throw plastic into rivers and lakes of which we
have no feasible way of recovering? Haven't our rivers and lakes been
through enough? (and Im a conservative no less!) Im not commenting on
its marketability, but ethically its an absolute outrage. In essence,
youre producing plastic specifically made to be thrown into a lake! The
whole point to rock skipping is to be good at it and good and picking
out the right rock. Once you take both those out of the equation you
have....well, you have bowling. And everyone knows how lame that is!

The whole throwing plastic in a river could be designed around by
using "green" plastics. Read the book by the same name. In the back it
gives formulas for plastics made from glycerin I think. They biodegrade
in a week or month...I cannot remember off the top of my head.
I don't see much commercial potential seeing not everyone is lucky
enough to live close to a beautiful lake. Just my thoughts though....

he didn't actually reduce to practice. go make one and feel free to

I have to agree with you...it's nice to see all ideas, even if they end
up as only entertainment value once in a while - criticism is a
valuable outcome of participation in this forum, but it should remain
useful, professional, constructive and non-personal (at least to the
avatars by which we represent ourselves online!). I'd like to see more
professional criticism from truly successful, well-recognized and non
self-aggrandizing inventors. As for the skipping stones, how do you
recreate the 2 variables that make it eminently satisfying, (1) the
rocks are 'free' (so long as they're not part of an investment in local
riprap or landscaping), and (2) each one is different, which brings
with each throw a certain anticipation and satisfaction (for good
throws) in having made a wise selection.

I'm not here to entertain, I'm here to help inventors succeed, such post
as these do not do this , they help inventors "FAIL", they have them
wasting time and money on worthless ideas.

Those who can, DO !

Those who can't , Dream , and criticize those who Do.
